A life long horse enthusiast, I began to study the Principles of “Natural Horsemanship” in 1991. This was before this term became popular and it meant to me that I would find ways to teach horses in a safe and effective way. I feel that in order to be successful with horses and humans:
- we should only teach a horse when he is calm;
- we need understand how horses learn from the perspective of a prey animal;
- we must establish a trusting relationship in which the human is the leader and the horse looks to the leader for the next thing to do
- we will learn from the horse by watching the horse carefully and learning from his reactions.
